Patients are the owners of their data and should have a supervisory role in the accuracy of their medical records. According to an Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy/Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ASTP) 2023 study, 27% of patients were not offered portal or app access to their medical records. Of those offered access, 43% did not view their records even once.
Clinical data quality can be dramatically improved if providers send secure links to summarized clinical notes after each encounter or if patients can review their records in the provider’s office on supplied tablets while waiting to see the clinician.
